The Island of Guarno, Antigua, in the West Indies, has been lent by Major Hugh Hole, of Caunton Manor, Newark, to his cousin, Miss Irene Lavinia Francklin, for her honeymoon.

Miss Francklin, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Francklin, of the Manor House, Oxton, Newark, was married at Southweil Cathedral yesterday to Mr. William Evelyn Seely, second son of Colonel and Mrs. Seely, of Ramsdale Park, the Bishop of Winchester officiating.

She was given away by her father and was attired in a mediaeval dress of white satin with pearl girdle and a train of Brussels lace. She wore a pearl necklace and tassel of pearls and sapphires, the gift of Colonel F. E. Seely. Her train was borne by Miss Sara Brand (the bridegroom's niece), Miss Elizabeth Nall, and Miss Lucinda Baker (cousins of the bride), and Miss Belinda Blow-Jones.

Twelve Bridesmaids.

There were twelve bridesmaids, the Misses Sheila and Nina Seely (sisters of the bridegroom), Miss Camilla Russell and Miss Kitty Seely (the bridegroom's cousins), Miss Mona de la Rue, Miss Betty Sherbrooke, Miss Francklin, Miss Judith Francklin, and Miss Bridgett Hancock (the bride's cousins), Miss Diana Wren, Miss Margaret Warrand, and Miss Elizabeth Gainsford, and all wore mediaeval dresses of Venetian red velvet with a pointed bodice and a girdle of pearls and red stones. A high gold lace collar and cap edged with pearls completed their attire with the exception of a necklace of Venetian beads, the gift of the bridegroom.

The little page was Master Malcolm Fraser. and he wore trunk hose and puffed breeches of the period of Edward VI., with gold bodice and Venetian red cloak.

Mr. James Seely, the bridegroom's brother, acted as best man.

The Bishop of Winchester was assisted by Archdeacon Conybeare and the Rev. J. D. Hunt (Vicar of Oxton). The address was given by the Ven. G. Lunt, Archdeacon of Egypt, the bride's uncle.

A guard of honour was furnished by the 107th (South Notts Hussars) Brigade to which the bridegroom is attached.

A reception was held at Oxton Hall, lent for the occasion by Mrs. Kyrie Smith.

Lesson to America
—'British car trade
is beating U.S.'

BRITAIN'S motor industry has got off to a long start over the American motor industry. which is still hampered by strikes. and conversion difficulties. cables John Sampson from New York. The New York Herald Tribune prints a despatch from its Luton correspondent, John Chabot Smith, which says Britain has a "golden opportunity ahead" in the European and South American car market,"largely due to the initiative of the Government."

Smith commends Vauxhall's policy of keeping workers happy—"with high wages, short working hours. full employment all the year round and, especially, by giving the workers share in administration of factory."

In a companion survey of American motor production the Herald Tribune states that the past year has been "one of the most disheartening and difficult" in the industry's history.
