The war memorial is in Stow cum Quy village hall but was formerly in the chapel. It takes the form of a wall mounted, landscape orientated, incised stone frame and tablet with the inscription across the top frame rail, the main inscription and World War 1 names, grouped by year, on the central tablet with a further short World War 2 inscription and one name across the lower frame rail; all the lettering is infilled with black paint. There are 19 names listed for World War 1 and one for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled and dedicated 11 November 1920; the architect was Mr. Thomas Dinham Atkinson and the masons were Messrs. Rattee & Kett Ltd.

Private 45007, 2nd/5th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment who was killed in action on Wednesday, 26th September 1917. Born Swaffham Prior, enlisted Newmarket, resident Swaffham Bulbeck. BENDALL

Hugh Henry

Private 19839, 10th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regt.) who died on Tuesday, 25th May 1915. Age 32. Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Bendall, of Bottisham, Cambridge, England; husband of the late Eliza Bendall (nee Woodstock). Born March 16, 1883, in Bottisham, Cambs. In civil life he was employed as a printer in McNally, Alberta. On September 24, 1914, he enlisted in the C.E.F. at Valcartier Camp, Quebec. At the time of his enlistment he was described as being 5 feet 6¾ inches tall with dark complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. At the time of his enlistment he noted a Mrs. Scholkowski as his next of kin and noted that he was unmarried. Buried in Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. Row A. Private 326855, 1st/1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment, formerly 4658, Cambridgeshire Regiment. Killed in action on Thursday, 22nd August 1918. Born Lode, enlisted Cambridge. Awarded Military Medal (M.M.). In the 1891 census he was aged 6, born Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, son of John and Sarah bendall, resident Heath Road, Bottisham, Newmarket, Cambridgeshire. In the Electoral Registers 1915-1918 for the parish of Stow-Cum-Quy he id listed as resident Alicky/Allickey Farm. In the 1901 census he was aged 16, born Lode, Cambridgeshire, a Farmer's son, son of John and Sarah Bendall, resident Bendall Farm, Lode, Newmarket, Cambridgeshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 25, born Lode Fen, Cambridgeshire, an Assistant on Farm, son of John and Sarah H Bendall, resident Alicky Farm, Stow cum Quy, Cambridgeshire. Buried in Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France. Plot I. Row J. Grave 9.

Also commemorated in Quy Wesleyan Chapel and on the Memorial Men Of Cambridgeshire and the Isle Of Ely Memorial within Ely Cathedral.
