This memorial is to be found opposite the junction with Quarry Bank in a small roadside garden in John Street, Utkinton. It takes the form of a wooden carved Calvary on a rectangular stepped stone base set in a paved and gravel area with two circular flower beds and a bench seat. The memorial was first dedicated and unveiled 1 September 1918 by Rev. Hughes, Rector of Tarporley, with The Shrine being placed in 1923. For Utkinton there are seven names for World War 1 and one for World War 2 and a further two names for Cotebrook which do not appear on the memorial. CRAVEN	John	Private 36013, 10th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. Died of wounds 24 October 1916. Aged 22. Born Utkinton, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Son of Joseph and Sarah Craven, of Quarry Bank, Utkinton, Tarporley, Cheshire.Buried in MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY, LE TREPORT, Seine-Maritime, France. Plot I. Row J. Grave 10.
CRAVEN	William	Gunner 41583, "D" Battery, 168 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds 11 August 1918 [SDGW states 23 August]. Born Utkinton, Cheshire, enlisted Preston, Lancashire. Buried in BOUCHOIR NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot II. Row B. Grave 71.
HASSALL	Arthur Horace [Harold Snelson]	Private 101630, 17th Squadron Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) formerly 1416, 2nd/1st Battalion, Cheshire Yeomanry. Died on service 15 October 1918 in Alexandria, Egypt. Resident Tarporley, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Buried in HAIFA WAR CEMETERY, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). Section A. Grave 3.
JOHNSON	[Arnold] Joseph [Craven]	Private 49597, 9th Platoon, "C" Company, 5th Battalion (Pioneers), South Wales Borderers. Killed in action 30 May 1918. Aged 19. Born Utkinton, Cheshire, resident Tarporley, Cheshire, enlisted Nantwich, Cheshire. Son of Joseph and Sarah Johnson, of Rose Farm, Urkinton, Tarporley, Cheshire. Buried in CHAMBRECY BRITISH CEMETERY, Marne, France. Plot VIII. Row B. Grave 10.
RUTTER	Edward	Private 31609, 8th Battalion, Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire). Killed in action 13 June 1917. Aged 25. Resident Tarporley, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Son of Mrs. Jane E. Rutter, of Quarry Bank, Tarporley, Cheshire. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 37.
STONELEY	Alec	Private 31617, 7th Battalion, Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire). Died of wounds 11 June 1917. Resident Tarporley, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Buried in HAZEBROUCK COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot I. Row G. Grave 4.
WARBURTON	John	Gunner 118011, 232nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 14 September 1917. Aged 20. Born Kingsley, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Son of Thomas and Betsy Warburton, of Quarry Bank Farm, Willington, Tarporley, Cheshire. Buried in DOZINGHEM MILITARY CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot VIII. Row B. Grave 19.
COTEBROOK
COOK	James	Private 24226, 15th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. Killed in action 20 August 1917. Aged 22. Born Knutsford, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Son of Charles and Alice Cook, of Cotebrook, Tarporley, Cheshire. Buried in TEMPLEUX-LE-GUERARD BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot II. Row G. Grave 47.
WILDING	Thomas	Sapper 86764, 137th Army Troops Company, Royal Engineers. Died on service in Salonika 16 April 1918. Aged 29. Born Tarporlev, Cheshire, resident Tattenhall, Cheshire, enlisted Chester. Husband of Elizabeth J. Wilding, of School Terrace, Tattenhall, Cheshire. Buried in BRALO BRITISH CEMETERY, Greece. Grave 5.
1939 - 1945
PAGE	Walter	Able Seaman D/J 74068, H.M.S. Glorious, Royal Navy. Died at sea when his ship was sunk in action in North Atlantic/North Sea while taking part in Operation Alphabet, the evacuation of Allied forces from Norway, 8 June 1940. Aged 38. Born 11 February 1902 in Runcorn, Cheshire. Son of Peter and Alice Page; husband of Florence Page, of Utkinton, Cheshire. Originally enlisted 11 February 1920 for 12 years, height 5 feet 2¾ inches, chest 34½, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion. No known grave. Commemorated on PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 38, Column 1. Details for H.M.S. Glorious's sinking have been published on the website "History Tioday" under the title "HMS Glorious: History of a Controversy".
