Chief Engineer, S.S. Unity (Goole), Mercantile Marine. Died when his ship was en route from Newhaven for Calais when torpedoed by German submarine UB-5 2 May 1918. Aged 39. Chief Engineer, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Born and resident Goole, Yorkshire. Son of John Henry and Annie Elizabeth Thompson; husband of Olive, of 6, Spring Gardens, Hook Road, Goole. Baptised 6 April 1879 in Goole, son of John Henry and Annie Elizabeth Thompson, resident Old Goole. In the 1881 census he was aged 2, born old Goole, Yorkshire, son of Annie Thompson (wife of a marine enginer), resident Elvins Houses, Marshland Road, Goole, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). In the 1891 census he was aged 12, born Goole, Yorkshire, a scholar, son of John H and Annie Thompson, resident Southeran Street, Hook, Goole, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). In the 1911 census he was aged 32, born Goole, Yorkshire, a Marine engineer, married to Olive Tompson with one daughter and one son, resident 6, Spring Gardens, Hook Road, Goole, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). No known grave. Commemorated on TOWER HILL MEMORIAL, London.

Private 3118, 1st/5th Battalion, King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry). Died of wounds in United Kingdom 24 Julyu 1916. Aged 21. Labourer, Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Born 12 April 1895, and resident and enlisted, in Goole, Yorkshire. Member of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, as Railway Workers, Capstan Youth, Goole Yorkshire branch, admitted 12 April 1895. Son of Mr. J. W. Thompson, of 76, Marlborough Avenue, Goole. Baptised 13 April 1895 in Goole, Yorkshire, son of John William and Emily Thompson. In the 1901 census he was aged 6, born Goole, Yorkshire, son of John W and Emily Thompson, resident 63, Queens Avenue, Goole, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). In the 1911 census he was aged 15, born Goole, Yorkshire, a Dock labourer, son of J W and Emily Thompson, resident 76, Marlbro Avenue, Goole, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding). Buried in GOOLE CEMETERY, Yorkshire. Grave reference A. West. "C". 163.
