SHAW AND CROMPTON SOUTH AFRICAN (BOER) WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial can be found behind the Library/Salvation Army Building in Farrow Street, Westway, Shaw. It takes the form of a m,etal plaque within an oak frame placed within a recess in a wall. Crossed flags. rfiles and a lurel wreath surmounted by a crown ae depicted on the plaque. It was unveiled on 25th June 1904 by James T Travis-Clegg. Ther are eight names commemorated.

[Listed as Killed in action on memorial] Private 3521, 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Dangerously wounded between between Dullstroom and Lydenburg 19th December 1901, died at Elandspruit 20th December. Commemorated on memorial and buried between Dullstroom and Lydenburg.

Private. Killed in action. possibly J TAYLOR, Private 5731, 28th Mounted Infantry, 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action 31st March 1902 at Boschbult.
