Lincoln War Memorial, a large cross at St Benedict’s Square, Lincoln, with inscriptions on all sides. It was unveiled November 1922 by Field Marshall Sir William Robertson. The names from WW2 are on small square panels on either side of the 4 ‘buttresses’. The WW1 names are on the 4 ends of the buttresses and the 4 faces of the central pillar. There is no direct indication which panels are from which war, but it can be deduced from the numbers and checked against known casualty lists. Not all the names are in perfect alphabetical order. Some of the C’s and G’s are very difficult to distinguish and may be in error. Due to the volume of names on this memorial it has been split into alphabetical sections within conflict. There are 971 names for World War 1 and 314 (including 4 civilians) for World War 2.
