[Spelt HONISETT on Roll of Honour, HONEYSETT on CWGC and SDGW] Driver 43968, `K` Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. Cavalry Division. Killed in action near Ypres 20th October 1914. Regular Artilleryman. Born in Battle and enlisted in Hastings. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 9. Extract from Bexhill-on-Sea Chronicle - Saturday 12 December 1914, page 4: LOCAL ATHLETE KILLED IN ACTION. Our sympathies will go out this week to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Honneysett, of Normanhurst Stables, who have received official notice from the War Office that their son, Driver F. W. Hoonneysett, Royal Horse Artillery (43968), has been killed in action. The gallant lad had enlisted in 1907 and has served for the past six years in India and Africa. As a runner and sprinter, he was the winner of numerous races, as is shown by the splendid prizes that his parents will always treasure as mementoes of their boy, who laid down his life for his country. Unfortunately, Mrs. Honneysett is suffering from a nervous breakdown. which has been occasioned by worry about her three sons who have been serving the King, one being attached to the Gordon Highlanders, and another in the Navy. Mr. Honneysett sen., was for 32 years coachman and stud-groom to the late Mr. Charles Egerton, of Mountfield Court, and is now in the employment of Lord Hythe. |
