William Ewart Winfield MEAD, Private G/15376, 10th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Died of gunshot wounds to the chest, received in action, at 138 Field Ambulance 24 October 1918. Aged 29. Born Fulham, London S.W., resident Eton, Buckinghamshire, enlisted Egham, Staines, Middlesex. Baptised 6 January 1888 in Chelsea, Middlesex, son of John Frederick and Rebecca Mead. Son of John and Rebecca Mead, of 13, Brocas St., Eton, Windsor; husband of Marion Emily Maria aka Mary (nee Gillson) Mead, married 8 July 1915 in Slough, Bucks; one daughter, Esme Dilys Mead, born 29 September 1915 in Egham, Surrey. In the 1901 census he was aged 12, born London, Middlesex, resident with his mother (Rebecaa) and his brother Reginald (see above), at 13, Brocas Street, Eton, Buckinghamshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 22, born Fulham, Middlesex, an Upholsterer, resident with his parents, John Frederick and Rebecca Mead, at 13 Brocas Street, Eton, Buckinghamshire; brother of Reginald Edward Mead (above). Attested 29 May 1916 in Egham, aged 27 years 1 month, resident 105 High Street, Egham, a Carpenter by trade, married. Served in United Kingdom 11 December 1915 to 11 September 1916, posted to B.E.F. 12 September 1916, posted 11th Battalion 23 September 1916, posted 10th Battalion 8 May 1918. Height 5 feet 7½ inches, weight 146 lbs, chest 34 inches. Previously wounded in 1917. Buried in VICHTE MILITARY CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot IV. Row B. Grave 10.
