SWANBOURNE WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found at the junction of Winslow Road (B4032) and Mursley Road, Swanbourne. It takes the form of a Portland Stone Obelisk with a wreath inlaid into the front face the whole standing on a stepped plinth with a two-stepped base surorunded by a chain-link fence with concrete bollards. The memorial contains the names of those who served and died in World War 1, there are 67 names in all and also a further two names of men who gave their lives in World War 2. The memorial was unveiled by Admiral the Honourable Sir E R Freemantle on 26th September 1920. Details appeared in the Bucks herald 9th October 1920 and the Bucks Advertiser & Daily News 9th october 1920. The names here have been sorted into alphabetical order for ease of reading and research.
