The Mullion memorial is situated outside St Mellanus Church, Mullion, Kerrier, Cornwall. It takes the form of a Celtic Cross on square plinth and two-stepped base. Names in black lettering on faces of the base. There are ten names listed for World War 1 and twelve names for World War 2.

WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918

ELIOT	Francis Geoffrey	Captain, 1st Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry, Royal Naval Division. Military Cross & Croix de Guerre (Belgian). Born 2nd October 1891 son of Captain Laurence Henry Eliot Rn and Mrs Eliot. He was Killed in Action on 27th September 1918 aged 28. He is buried at Hermies Hill British Cemetery, grave No IV.J.1, France
ELIOT	Laurence Charles Drake	2409, Private, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). Brother of Francis living at “Rhos” Mullion. He elsited at Valcartier, Quebec on 26th September 1914. Fighting as dismounted infantry with the 1st Canadian Division he was Killed In action on 26th May 1915 aged 19. His body was never recovered, and he is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France.
ELIOT	William Laurence	Lieutenant, 1st Battalion the West Yorkshire Regiment. Born in Kent in 1890 Older brother of Francis, living at “Rhos” Mullion. Commissioned into the West Yorkshires in October 1910. He was Killed in Action on 20th September 1914 aged 24. His body was never recovered, and he is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine et Marne, France.
GILBERT	Albert	32672, Private, 2nd Battalion the Hampshire Regiment. He was born in Mullion on 17th April 1891 son of William and Jane Gilbert of King’s Cottage, Mullion and Husband of Ada Louise (Nee Hounsom) Gilbert. He was captured near Arras on 23rd April 1917 “unverwudet und wentliche” (unwounded and useful). It would appear that he died as a result of an accident while working near Verviers on 28th November 1917 aged 26. He is buried at verviers Communal cemetery, Belgium. Also commemorated on the Stoke D’Abernon war Memorial tablets, Surrey.
GILBERT	Thomas Carbis	9365/DA, Deck Hand, Royal Naval Reserve son of Joseph Thomas and Catherine (nee Carbis) Thomas and Husband to Florence S (nee Mitchell) Gilbert living at Penmenner Road, Lizard. He enlisted at Falmouth into the RNR on 22nd October 1915 serving at HMS Driel Castle the Auxiliary Patrol Base at Falmouth. He died from pneumonia and bronchitis on 28th October 1918 aged 32. He is buried in Mullion Churchyard grave no U.2.4
JILBERT	Charles Ernest	23688, Private, 1st Battalion the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Born in 1895 the son of William James and Georgina Jilbert of “Kin-ross” Core Road, Mullion. He enlisted between July 1915 and February 1916. He was Killed in Action on 31st August 1918 aged 23. His body was never recovered, and he is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Panel 6.
JILBERT	William Francis	352927, Private, 1st/7th (City of London) Battalion the London Regiment. Born in 1894 brother of Charles. He arrived in France in May 1916 and was Killed in Action on 15th September 1916 aged 22. His body was never recovered, and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
SMART, DCM	Hugh Sale	Captain, 53rd Sikhs (Frontier Force) Distinguished Conduct Medal. Born at Kurnool, India on 3rd February 1885 son of Colonel AW Smart RE and Mrs Smart. He gained a commission into the South Staffordshire Regiment later transferring to the Sikhs. On the outbreak of war and trying to re-join his regiment he took leave and enlisted into the Queens Regiment as G4043, Private, Thomas Hardy. He was Killed in Action at Festubert on 15th May 1915 aged 28, being awarded a posthumous DCM. His body was never recovered, and he is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Panel 4 and 5. His commission was restored by the King effective from 29th December 1914.
TREWIN	Francis Stanley	G/26600, Private, 7th (Service) Battalion the Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Born in St Keverne in 1893 the son of William and Eliza Ann (nee Hocking) Trewin and husband to Annie Grace Trewin of ‘Laflwder’, Mullion. He Died of Wounds on 5th May 1918 aged 25 and is buried in Dernacourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Grave no VIII.I.19, France.
UPWARD	Frederick	302944, Stoker Class 1, Royal Navy. Born in Brighton on 17th April 1884 son of George and Caroline Upward and husband of Caroline Upward. He enlisted at Portsmouth on 17th January 1903 for 12 years. On 27th May 1915 his ship, HMS Majestic, was sunk by a torpedo fired from U-21 off ‘W’ Beach Gallipoli. Only 49 of the crew of 672 were killed. He was not one of them but unfortunately, he was killed by shellfire while employed ashore with a beach party on 14th June 1915 aged 30. He is buried at Beach Cemetery, ANZAC, Gallipoli
1939-1945
BAX	[Hubert] Eric	7955550 Trooper, 17th/21st Lancers, Royal Armoured Corps. Died 23 April 1943. Aged 26. Son of Claude Waldo Gordon Bax and Nina Alexandra Bax, of Mullion, Cornwall. No known grave. Commemorated on MEDJEZ-EL-BAB MEMORIAL, Tunisia. Face 3.
BRAY	William Richard	1850199 Sergeant, 218 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 27 September 1943. Son of Samuel James Bray and Susan Mary Bray, of Mullion, Cornwall. Buried in HANOVER WAR CEMETERY, Niedersachsen, Germany. Plot 16. Row J. Grave 17.
BROWN	Albert Victor	D/J 98696, Able Seaman, H.M.S. Matabele, Royal Navy. Died 17 January 1942. Aged 37. Son of William and Laura Brown, of Mullion, Cornwall. No known grave. Commemorated on PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 64, Column 2.
BRYANT	Aubrey [Claude]	5628642, Private, 2/6th Battalion, The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey). Died 21 January 1944. Aged 33. Son of Arthur and Ethel Bryant, of Churchtown, Mullion, Cornwall. No known grave. Commemorated on CASSINO MEMORIAL, Italy. Panel 4.
