The Henham war memorial stands on the village green and takes the form of an irregular shaped monolith built from worked stone blocks with an inset marble tablet bearing the names of the fallen; the whole is surrounded by railings. There are 15 names listed for World War 1 and one for World War 2. THe memorial was first unveiled on 6 March 1921 by W. Foot Mitchell Esq., of Quendon, with the Revd J. Farley. The memorial was paid for by public subscription of £100; the builders were Messrs J Day & Son. For more information see the Henham History War Memorial page.

BENTLEY	William [Arthur or Ernest]	[Listed as William Arthur [CWGC] or William Ernest [SDGW] Private 250925, 5th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 2 November 1917 in Palestine. Aged 18. Enlisted and resident Henham. Son of William John and Amy Bentley, of High St, Henham, Essex. In the 1901 census he is aged 2, son of William and Amy Bentley, born Henham, resident The Row, Henham, Essex. In the 1911 census he is aged 12, at school, born Henham, resident High Street, Henham, Stansted, Essex. No known grave. Commemorated on JERUSALEM MEMORIAL, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza). BRAND	William [George]	Private 33201, 12th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. Killed in action 4 September 1918. Aged 21. Born Henham, enlisted Saffron Walden. DENNISON	Arthur John	Gunner 326450, 200th Siege Battery (Clyde RGA - Territorial Force), Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in action 5 September 1917. Aged 19. Born Henham, enlisted Saffron Walden. HEARD	Basil Claud [Christmas]	Private 40078, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 23 October 1916. Aged 19. Enlisted and resident Henham. Son of Walter and Emily Heard, of Henham, Stansted, Essex. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 10 D. See also Henham St Mary Article from Local Paper December 1916: HENHAM. HENHAM SOLDIER WOUNDED AND MISSING". - Mr and Mrs W. Heard, of Henham, have, received news that their youngest son, Signaller B.C.C. Heard, of the Essex Regiment, was wounded in an engagement in France on October 23rd, and is now reported missing. His officer writes that he was severely wounded in the leg by a shell, but owing to the sniping could not be taken to the dressing station by daylight, and when the Regiment was relieved by another he was placed in their charge. No further information has been heard of him. He enlisted in May, 1915, and had only been on the western front a very short time. Mr and Mrs Heard have three other sons serving with His Majesty's forces.

JOHNSON	William [Hayden]	Private 32231, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 9 April 1917. Aged 20. Born Debden, Essex, enlisted Warley, Essex, resident Henham. Son of Frederick and Ruth Johnson, of Stone Cottage, Henham, Stansted, Essex. Buried in FAMPOUX BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot/Row/Section E. Grave 7. JOHNSON wish to return sincere thanks to all friends for the many kind expressions of sympathy in their sad bereavement.—[Advt.] HENHAM SOLDIER'S DEATH FROM WOUNDS.—Mr and Mrs F. Johnson, of Stone Cottage, Henham, have received official notice that their eldest son, Private William Johnson, aged 20, of the Essex Regiment, died of wounds in hospital in France on the 5th of April. He joined the Army on the 20th of October last. He was a member of the Christian Endeavour at Henham. Mrs .Johnson had first received the sad news in a letter from the deceased's Chaplain, in which he says: "May God comfort and support you in your great trouble. It may cheer you to know that he received his wounds while taking a gallant share In England's great victory. You may always be very proud to think of It. May God bless him and you." Mr and Mrs F. Johnson have another son serving.
KING	Frank	Private 1321, 16th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died of wounds 24 December 1915. Aged 31. Born Henham, enlisted Birmingham, resident Erdington, Birmingham. SMITH	Clifford	Private 355218, 2nd/7th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment. Died of wounds 26 August 1918. Aged 23. Enlisted Colchester, resident Stanstead. WHITE	Walter	Private 10764, 10th Battalion, Essex Regiment. Killed in action 20 July 1916. Born and resident Henham, enlisted Saffron Walden. His two brother’s Ernest and Percy survived the war. WILLETT	[Dick] Richard aka Dickey	Private 10019, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 30 October 1914. Born Henham, enlisted Hertford, resident Birchanger, Essex. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, son of William Willett (a widower), a Scholar, born Henham, resident Wood End Green, Henham. Embarked 6 October 1914. No known grave. NAPIER	Robert David	Sub-Lieutenant (A) (Pilot), H.M.S. Ruler (D72), Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Died was when the aircraft he took off in foundered with its prop in coarse pitch and dove into sea, 23 May 1945. Aged 21. Son of Henry Andrew Muter Napier and Catherine Frances Sydney Napier, of Henham, Essex. No known grave. Commemorated on LEE-ON-SOLENT MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Bay 6, Panel 5.
