Somme, France. Pier and Face 2 C. Extract from De Ruvigny’s Roll of Honour: ROSS-TAYLOR, IAN HENRY MUNRO, 2nd Lieut., 7th (Service) Battn. The Bedfordshire Regt., only s. Of James Walter Ross-Taylor, of Daws Hall, Lamarsh, co. Essex, formerly of Bedford, and of Madras and Hong-Kong, by his wife, Charlotte Gray, dau. of Thomas Robinson Johnstone, of Downhill; b. Madras, India, 12 May, 1894; educ. Arden House, Henley-in-Arden, and Radley College, where he was a member of the O.T.C.; was subsequently on the Foreign Staff of Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China; obtained a commission in the Bedfordshire egt. 23 Feb. 1915, and was posted to the 8th Battn. As a supernumerary to the establishment; transferred to the 9th Battn.; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from Feb. 1916, when he joined the 7th Battn.; was wounded in march, and invalided home; returned to the front 13 July, and was killed in action during the taking of Thiepval 27 Sept. 1916. While at Arden House he obtained valuable instruction in miniature ride shooting, and won a certificate of marksmanship from the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs, signed by Lord Roberts as president; unm. |
