The memorial stands in the churchyard of St Margaret's Church looking down onto the road. The memorial takes the form of a Celtic cross set on a tapering plinth and square base with the dedication on the 6 o'clock face in black lettering. There are 14 names listed for World War 1.The World War 2 names as well as being on the exterior memorial are also listed on a board with metal lettering placed on the south window ledge within the church; the same three names appear on both memorials.

Son of Martha Childerley, of Abbotsley, St. Neots, Hunts, and the late Josiah Childerley. Formerly 1453, Hunts Cyclist Battalion. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 9 A 9 B and 10 B. Also commemorated on his father's tombstone in Abbostley Churchyard.

Dear Mrs Dineen,

I am writing to tell you of the death of your son, Rifleman G.E. Dineen, who was a member of our battalion, and to express my most sincere sympathy with you in your great loss.

Your son was hit by a shell in the trenches on November 5th and was killed instantly. He can have suffered no pain.

I myself buried him on the same evening in a graveyard near the trenches. We will carefully mark the spot and have already erected a wooden cross.

Your son was a brave man and died doing his duty and I am sure that you will be poroud of him, as we are.

I know how hard it is to say anything, which can give any real comfort at such a time of sorrow, but I hope you will accept my most sincere sympathy.
