He was a resident of London E when he enlisted for service at Chelsea S. W.

William was a Private (#L/2854) with the 1st Battalion, Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died October 13, 1914 in France.

Albert was a Driver (#2220) with the 1st/3rd Kent Field Coy Royal Engineers who at at 37 was a soldier lost at sea during the Hythe disaster October 28, 1915. Percy was a Private (#M2/182737) with the Army Service Corps. 35th Aus. Petrol Coy. Mech. who at the age of 37 died in France November 2, 1918. He is recorded at the Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre (Div 62. II. M. 7). He was the husband of Ellen Mary Walker of 21 Nelson Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He was a resident of Tunbridge Wells at the time of enlisting for service there.

Edward was a Rifleman (#591141) with the D Coy 2nd/18th Battalion London Regiment (London Irish Rifles) who at age 19 died in France October 9, 1916. He is recorded at the Arras Memorial (Bay 10). He was the son of Eliza Wall of 60 St John's Rd., Isleworth, Middlesex and the late Daniel Wall.

Arthur was a Private (#1913) with the 32nd Battalion, Australian Infantry A. I. F. who at age 26 died in France March 21, 1918. He is recorded at the Outterstreene Communal Cemetery (II. 13). He was the son of James George Wallis and husband of J. Wallis of 52 Charles St., Unley, Adelaide, South Australia. Arthur was a native of Tunbridge Wells.

William was a Driver (#541320) with the 7th Field Sqdn., Royal Engineers who died February 9, 1919, age 47. He was the son of William Walsh of Harlow, Essex and husband of Mariam Zillah Walsh. William lived at 19 Aosley Street Rusthall before the war. He was buried at the Gievres Communal Cemetery, Loir-et-Cher, France and is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.

Edward was a Private (#L/9070) with the Royal Sussex Regiment, 2nd Battalion, who at the age of 33 died in France September 14, 1914. He is recorded at the La Ferte-Sous-Jourre Memorial. He was the son of Emma Walter of 2 Market R., Tunbridge Wells and the late thomas Walter.

Edmund was a Company Sergeant Major (#9511) MM., 3rd Regiment South African Infantry, who died September 12, 1918 age 30. An ex-Rusthall schoolboy he lived at 56 Southwood Road, Rusthall. He joined the army at the start of the war and had been wounded twice and awarded the military medal for gallantry in returning to lead his company into action despite being wounded. He had seen action in France and German East Africa. It was whilst returning from South Africa to get his discharge that he went down with the S. S. Galway Castle when she was torpedoed and sunk in th Atlantic not far from Plymouth. He is remembered with honour on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton and is also recorded on the Rusthall War Memorial.

He was a Corporal (#81925) with the 10th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment) who died in France June 6, 1915 at age 19. He is recorded at the Vimy Memorial. He was born 1896 at Knowoley. He was the son of Wilfred Broughton Warde and Louise Sophia Warde of 23 Hook Rd., Sorbiton, Surrey.

Charles was a 2nd Lieut with the 6th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who died at age 21 in France May 3, 1917. He was recorded at the Arras Memorial (Bay 2). He was the son of Charles Carew Warrington and Fanny Warrington of 4 Camden Park, Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as Charles Warnington.

Frederick was born September 3, 1891 in Tunbridge Wells to Frederick Waters (1858-1926) and Maria Waters (nee Crosswell 1854-1904) and he had three siblings and a half sibling. In 1911 he was living as a border, age 19, at 1 Warwick Terrace Meadow Rd., Rustahall, Tunbridge Wells. He was working at the time as a "process worker, operator" and was single. His father was the Publican of the Oak Inn in Tunbridge Wells (1901 census). Family tree and military records confirm that Frederick died of wounds in the Western European Theatre of War on November 18, 1914. Frederick had enlisted for service in London and gave his address at the time of enlistment as Leaderville, Perth, Western Australia. He was a Private (#9064) with the Household Cavalry and Cavalry of the Line (including Yeomanry anfd Imperial Camel Corps), 19th (Queen Alexandras Own Regiment) Hussars Battalion. He is also recorded at the Rusthall War Memorial.

George was born at Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service at Tunbridge Wells. He was a Private (#12107) with the 7th Battalion, Queens Own West Kent Regiment who died in France November 18, 1916. He is recorded at the Stump Road Cemetery Grandcourt France. (A. 14). He is also recorded at the Rusthall War Memorial.

Harold was a Private (#6612) with the London Regiment, 20th Battalion, who died age 18 in Belgium February 28, 1917. He is recorded at the Chester Farm Cemetery (III. G. 7). He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Walter Watts of 37 Victoria Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Reginald was an Acting Bombardier (#315470) with the 81st Siege Bty Royal Garrison Artillery who died in Belgium at age 30 on September 20, 1917. he is recorded at the Tyne Cot Memorial (panel 6 to 7 and 162). He was the husband of Violet Watts of 1 Hill St., Tunbridge Wells.

He is recorded at the Les Baraques Milirary Cemetery (VIII. B. 15A). He was the son of Mr and Mrs J. Welch of Tunbridge Wells and the husband of C. M. Welch of 32 Calverley St., Tunbridge Wells. He is also listed on the plaque at St James Church as William Welch.

William was a Private (#L/8307) with the Queens Own West Kent Regiment, 1st Battalion, who died in France October 26, 1917. He was born at Staplehurst, Kent and enlisted for service at Maidstone. He was the husband of Mrs Welfare of Cromwell Road, Tunbridge Wells and the son of Mr H. Welfare of Denny Bottom, Rusthall. His last home leave had been in February 1917. William had been a reservist and rejoined at the outbreak of war. Although wounded three times he had survived despite taking part in most of the major battles. He was buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery, Ypres (IX. J. 7). He is also recorded at the Rusthall War Memorial.

Frank was born in Tunbridge Wells and a resident of the town at the time of enlisting at Tonbridge. He was a Driver (#T4/038224) with the G. H. Q. Coy No. 2 Royal Army Service Corps who died August 1, 1915. He is recorded at the Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Turkey (E. 75).

Thomas was born in Tunbridge Wells and a resident of the town at the time of enlisting there. He was a Private (#81155) with the 13th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) who at age 19 died in France October 8, 1918. He is recorded at the Nanes Command Cemetery Extension (III. D. 19). He was the son of Albert and Esther Weller of 31 Mount Sion, Tunbridge Wells.

Henry was formerly a Police Constable with the Kent Constabulary in Tunbridge Wells. Henry was born at Beckenham, Kent and was a resident of Tunbridge Wells at the time of enlisting at Tonbridge.

Albert was born in Tunbridge Wells and was a resident of the town at the time of enlistment there. He was a Corporal (#T/245) with the Home Counties Supply Depot Army Service Corps attached to the 1st Kent Cyclist Battalion, who at age 20 died of injuries January 9, 1915. He was buried in the Tunbridge Wells Cemetery (C. 5. 138/139). He was the son of George and Elizabeth West of 2 Bayhall Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Sydney Hoad Wheatley was a Private (#42765) with the 2nd/10th Battalion, Manchester Regiment who died at age 26 in Belgium October 9, 1917. He is recorded at the Tyne Cot Memorial (panel 120 to 124 and 162 to 162A and 163A). He was the son of George Wheatley of 36 Eridge Rd., Tunbridge Wells. He was the husband of Lillian Daisy Wheatley of 113 Framfield Rd., Uckfield, Sussex. He is also recorded on the plaque of St Marks Church, Tunbridge Wells.

He is recorded at the Vailly British Cemetery (II. G. 12). He was the husband of N. Whitehorn of 12 Ely Lane, Calverley Rd., Tunbridge Wells.

Robert was a Private (#F/74) with the Middlesex Regiment, 17th Battalion, who at the age of 34 died in France April 28, 1917. He is recorded at the Arras Memorial (Bay 7). He was the husband of Mrs. N. Whiting of 3 Albion Square, Tunbridge Wells.

John was born at Southborough, Kent and enlisted for service at Maidstone. He was a Private (#L/10151) with the 1st Battalion, Queens Own West Kent Regiment who at age 19 died in France October 12, 1914. He was formerly #34828 with the 5th T. R. Battn. Arthur was born 1900 in Tunbridge Wells and in 1911 he was living in Tunbridge Wells with his parents William and Frances Wicker and his sister at 18 Upper Street, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells. Arthur’s father worked as a gardener.

His brother Albert Edward Wilmshurst was also on the same ship but was rescued. Born in Tunbridge Wells 3rd September 1895, son of Jesse Wilmshurst and Catherine Eliza (nee Hallet). He is recorded at the Helles Memorial (Panel 23 to 25 or 325 to 328). In 1911 Frank was living at 2 Rink Mews, Grove Hill Rd., Tunbridge Wells and working as a grocer’s errand boy. Only records found are for Bert Thomas Ditton Wise with the 13th Battalion, RHC Army killed in action age 20 at Hill 60 April 1915. He is recorded at the St Nicholas Churchyard in Surrey. There is a listing for a Herbert Wise on the St James Church plaque.

He was a Private (#SS/14718) with the 18th Labour Coy Army Service Corp and a soldier buried at sea October 24, 1915 at age 46. He is recorded at the Helles Memorial. He was the son of the late John and Fanny Wise and the husband of Lily Peerless Wise of 113 Fulwick Rd., Dartford, Kent.

Albert was born in Tunbridge Wells and enlisted for service at Maidstone. He was a Private (#L/10154) with the Queens Own West Kent Regiment, 1st Battalion, who died in France September 14, 1914. He is recorded at the Crouy-Vauxrot French Nation Cemetery (B. 7).

September 1914 and proceeded to France November 1915. He is listed on the plaque at St James Church as Sinclair P. Womersley.

Archibald was a Plumbers Mate (#M/5490) with the Royal Navy HMS PATHFINDER who died at age 21. He was killed by enemy action and his body was not recovered. He is recorded at the Chatham Naval Memorial (panel 6). He was the son of George Thomas and Charlotte Wood of 12 Chevening, Sevenoaks, Kent. In 1901 he was living with his parents and three siblings at Chevening, Kent and his father was a Verger church worker. In 1911 he was living at 12 Chevening, Sevenoaks with his parents. Naval records give that Archibald was born July 3, 1893 at Sevenoaks.

He is also recorded as W. B. Work on the plaque at Skinners School.
