He was the son of Godfrey Thomas and Ada Cavey and the husband of Nora May Cavey of Horsmonden, Kent. He is also recorded on the plaque at St James Church, Tunbridge Wells.

George was a Private with the Royal Engineers. He is most likely George William Chapman, born Kent, residing at Hampshire at time of enlistment who was a Private (#1682401) who at his time of death December 31, 1942 was with the Pioneer Corp in the North Africa Theatre of War.
