Extract from Grimsby News - Thursday 5 April 1917, page 7:

WOOTTON.

KILLED IN ACTION.—Mr. Robert- Dean has been officially informed that his son Private George Henry Dean, of the York and Lancs. has been killed in action abroad, the locality not being stated. The deceased was formerly in the occupation of groom at Wentworth Woodhouse. He was for many years a member of the local Oddfellows’ Society, who have a good percentage of men serving with the Colours. Though several of these have on occasions been wounded, Private Dean is the first to pay the great sacrifice.

Note: His parent's headstone reads "In Loving Memory of Sarah Ann the beloved wife of Robert Dean who died Feb 5th 1910 aged 66 years. Happy are they that die in the Lord. Also of George Henry their beloved son who was killed in action March 13th 1917 aged 38 years. He died for liberty May his dear departed soul rest in Peace. Also the above named Robert Dean who died June 29th 1922 aged 81 years. His end was peace."

Served in the South African Campaign. In the 1911 census he was aged 29, head of the family, single, born Ludford, Lincolnshire, a Farmer, resident with his mother (a widow) and two sisters, at Wootton, Ulceby Lincolnshire. Commemorated LOOS MEMORIAL. Panel 31 and 34.
