Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died of enteric 3 April 1900. Aged 27. Born February 1873. Son of Sir Thomas Salt, of Stafford.

Salt—Lieut. George Edmund Stevenson Salt, 1st Batt.. Royal Welsh Fusiliers, died of enteric April 3rd, 190o, at Modder Spruit, near Ladysmith. He was the third son of Sir Thomas and Lady Salt, of Weeping Cross, Stafford. Lieut. Salt was born in Feb., 1873, and educated at Charterhouse. He entered the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Dec., 1895, being promoted lieut. March, 1898. He accompanied his battalion to South Africa in Oct., 1899, and served with the Ladysmith Relief Force, He was present at the battle of Colenso and the subsequent fighting on the Tugela. His name is inscribed on the tablet in the War Memorial Cloister at Charterhouse.

Captain, Volunteer Company, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died of dysentry 8 May 1900 at Modder Spruit.

Warren.—Capt. W. J. Y. Warren, Volunteer Co. King's Royal Rifle Corps, died of dysentery at Modder Spruit, May, 8th, 1900. He had held the rank of capt. in the 2nd City of London Volunteer Rifle Corps from Oct., 1895, and had qualified in all military subjects, having passed the School of Instruction, and examinations in musketry, signalling, etc. On March 28th, 190o, he was appointed to serve with the line battalion in South Africa with the rank of capt. in the army, and at once proceeded to South Africa and served there till his death. A tablet of brass and alabaster to his memory and that of his comrades who fell in the war, has been erected at the headquarters of the 2nd City of London Rifles, Farringdon Road.
