West Row is a small village and civil parish in the English county of Suffolk. It is generally considered the edge of The Fens. The memorial is to be found on Church Green, West Row, Forest Heath, Suffolk. It takes the form of an obelisk made from Portland stone standing on the village green with chained surround. There are 35 names listed for World War 1 and 9 nams for World War 2. The memorial cost £115 raised by public sponsorship and was builder by Messers H G Neville & Son, Builder. The memorial was first unveiled 8 May 1919 by Lieutenant Francis Jaggard, M.C.

Son of Elijah and Ann Wells, of The Sluice, West Row Fen, Mildenhall, Suffolk. Buried in Parish Council ground in ISLEHAM CEMETERY, Cambridgeshire.

EDWARDS	Allan	[Also spelt Alan in most records, listed as Driver on memorial] Private 5828589, 5th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Formerly Prisoner of War of The Japanese captured 15 February 1942, died in the British General Hospital, Bangalore, 17 November 1945. Aged 24. Born and resident Suffolk. Buried 17 November 1945 in Bangalore, Holy Trinity, MADRAS WAR CEMETERY, CHENNAI, India. Plot 1. Row L. Grave 17. Extract from the Ely Standard: DEATH IN INDIA Pte. Alan Edwards The sad news of the death of their son, Pte. Alan Edwards, of the Suffolk Regiment, at the British General Hospital, Bangalore, India, on November 17th. has been received by Mr. and Mrs. B. A Edwards, High Post Farm, West Row and formerly of Mile End Farm, Prickwillow. Pte. Edwards, who joined the Suffolk Regiment prior to the outbreak of war, went to the Far East in 1941 and was reported a prisoner of war after the fall of Singapore. News of his release from captivity, soon after the end of hostilities was followed by official notification he was detained an the seriously ill list at Bangalore hospital. A few weeks ago his condition worsened and he was placed on the dangerously ill list. Several of his friends who were stationed in India had been to see him and all wrote of his cheerfulness in spite of his serious conditon. Lt.-Col. Gould, a friend of the family, was able to attend the funeral service at the Hospital Cemetery, Bangalore and a letter on Tuesday tells of the most impressive aerviee, with full military honours, that took place. Pte. Edwards, prior to the outbreak of war, assisted his father with his farm and was a very popular young man. The sympathy of their many friends in Prickswillow and district is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards in their sad loss. A memorial service is being held at the Baptist Church, West Row on Sunday evening next.

ISAACSON	Reginald [William]	Driver T/5835933, 21st Infantry Brigade Company, Royal Army Service Corps. Died on service in Italy 18 October 1944. Aged 22. Born Cambridgeshire, resident Suffolk. In the 1939 Register he was the son of Bert and Emily Isaacson, born 12 June 1923, a Hotel Porter, single, resident 3 Council House, West Row, Mildenhall R.D., Suffolk. NORMAN	Adolphus Wilfred	Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) 904840, 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Bomber Command. Killed in action flying out of West Raynham, Norfolk, in a Bristol Blenheim IV, serial number N6238, when the aircraft crashed into the North Sea during a raid on Hamburg 25 November 1940. Aged 20.
