as Arthur Walter Byles on CWGC] Private 17386, 11th Battalion, Royal
Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action on 16th November 1916. Born
Lighthorne, enlisted Leamington Spa, residence Heathcote Hill. The
11th Battalion, formed at Warwick in September 1914 and landed in
France on 3oth July 1915 as part of the 37th Division. Between 13th
and 19th November 1916 the Division fought in the Battle of Ancre,
one of the Somme Battles. No known grave. Commemorated on the Thiepval
Memorial, Somme, France. |

20404, 11th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action
26th February 1917. Son of William and Hannah Eden, Chesterton and
the husband of Margret Eden, Lighthorne. The 11th Battalion formed
at Warwick in September 1914 and landed in France on 30th July 1915
as part of the 37th Division. The Division fought on the Somme in
1916. Buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, France. |

action on 3rd December 1917. Son of Arthur and Harriett Holder of
Lighthorne. Born Gaydon, enlisted Warwick, residence Lighthorne.
The 2/7th Battalion, was part of the 61st (2nd South Midland) Division
which took part in the Cambrai operations in late November 1917
and fought against a determined enemy counter-attack on 30th November
which was to last for some days. No known grave. Commemorated on
the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France. |

Thomas
Holder Thomas Holder, A/Bombardier 10544, Royal Horse Artillery.
Born Warwick, enlisted Coventry. Thomas was killed in action on
19th October 1917 and is buried at St. Julien Dressing Station Cemetery,
Belgium. |

310886, 1st Warwickshire Yeomanry. Died of wounds on 28th April
1917. Son of George and Elizabeth Manton, Post Office Road, Lighthorne.
Enlisted at Warwick. The 1st Warwickshire Yeomanry sailed for Egypt
in April 1915 and became part of the 5th mounted Brigade. In February
1916 it transferred to the Imperial Mounted Division. On 19th April
1917, the Division fought in the Second Battle of Gaza. Buried in
Deir El Belah War Cemetery, Israel. |

8240, 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Killed in action on 6th
February 1915. Born in Lighthorne and enlisted in Warwick. The 3rd
Battalion, Coldstream Guards was part of the 2nd Division. The Division
fought in the 1914/1915 winter operations and between 1st and 6th
February fought an engagement known as ‘the affairs of Cuinchy‘.
No known grave. Commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France.

on the 3rd May 1917. Aged 45. Son of Jessie and Rose Marshall, Hungerford,
Berks, husband of Ellen Marshall. William was born Doldridge Berkshire,
enlisted Kineton, residence Lighthorne. The Royal Warwickshire,
1st Battalion, landed in France on 22nd August 1914 and was part
of the 4th Division. Between the 3rd and 4th May 1917 the Division
fought in the Third Battle of Scarpe, one of the Arras battles.
No known grave. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France. |

81502, 207th Company, Machine Gun Corps. Killed in action on 31st
July 1917. Aged 25. His Son of James and Elenor Taylor, Blakedown,
Kidderminster. Born Blackley Worcs, enlisted Birmingham. The 207
Company, Machine Gun Corps was a British unit attached to the Australian
3rd Division. The company remained with the 3rd Australian Division
from October 1916 until October 1917. Between the 7th June and 11th
July 1917, the Division fought at Messines on the Ypres Salient.
Formerly Private 612944, Royal Army Ordnance Corps. No known grave.
Commemorated on the Ypres (Menim Gate) Memorial, Belgium. |

65281, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 9th October 1918, at home.
Aged 26. Son of William and Sarah Treadwell, Lighthorne. Born Lighthorne,
enlisted Birmingham, residence Lighthorne. Awarded DCM, Distinguished
Conduct Medal in connection with military operations with the British
Forces in Italy. Buried in Lighthorne, (St Laurence) Churchyard.

Seaman D/SSX29409, HMS Newfoundland, Royal Navy. Died on 6th September
1943. Aged 21. Son of Mrs E.J. Swann, of Kenilworth. Raymond served
on board HMS Newfoundland, a light cruiser which underwent major
repairs at the Boston Navy Yard, Massachusetts. Buried in the Woodlawn
Cemetery, Everett, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

Officer 175495), 56 Squadron. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Killed whilst undertaking basic flying training on 5th May 1944.
In 1944 56 Squadron RAF was based at RAF Newchurch in Kent and was
equipped with Hawker Tempest Vs. Buried in Lighthorne, (St Laurence)
churchyard.
